Spey and Two-Handed Casting Instruction
We definitely love everything Spey. We love the great history and lore that surrounds Scotland and the river Spey where these long, two-handed rods originated in the mid-1800's. We love the stories of the ghillies, the stunning flies that were designed here; and, the experience that Spey casting brings to flyfishing the Pacific Northwest.
We offer a variety of spey two-handed casting lessons and classes
from private to group, hourly to full day Spey flyfishing/casting instructional
float trips. We primarily teach lessons and classes on the Nooksack, Skagit and Stillaguamish rivers.
Whether it's a traditional long belly, a Skagit head with heavy sink tip, single hand rod spey casting or a Scandi-style dry line, this is where we geek out. Teaching spey / two-handed casting is our passion.
If you're new to the world of Spey, there might appear to be a lot of black magic going on. This is simply not the case; and, our classes and lessons are designed to remove this perception. There are a great many parallels between single hand and two handed casting. There's timing, power and motion; and, there's a rod that wants a proper line...end of story.
Our spey casting lessons cover the mechanics of good two-handed casting, casting timing, application specific fly casting techniques, diagnosing your own casting challenges as well as casting flies safely. You'll also gain an increased understanding of the rods, lines and tools available. Casts we love include the double spey, circle or C-spey, Perry Poke, snap-T, snake roll and single spey.
One of the most important aspects of two-handed / Spey rod casting is selecting the correct line for the caster and understanding the tools available. We have nearly every Switch and Spey line that Airflo and Royal Wulff manufactures as well as a solid variety of short, mid and long belly lines from NextCast. We have a variety of demo rods available if you're just starting to think about getting into the game; and, we're happy to geek out on rods, lines and applications to help you have the most positive experience possible.
Jessica rocking it...first time on the Spey.
