Washington FlyCasting Lessons

One of the most enjoyable aspects of this great sport is the art of flycasting. It can become a pure obsession in my experience; and, it has certainly become that for me. When you want to learn to flycast in Washington, we can assist you in gaining the skills and knowledge to help you flyfish our waters effectively.

If you're here, you're more than likely looking to learn how to flycast or improveHow to FlyCast - Learn to FlyCast in Washington your flycasting skills. Often, the more strength and effort placed into the flycast, the worse the fly cast becomes. If you find that no matter how hard you try, your flyline ends up in a pile about ten feet in front of you, we can definitely help. Taking a weighted fly to the back of the head is never much fun either.

In our classes, you'll find endless patience and an understandable approach to our flycasting instruction. There are many different flycasting techniques but the fundamentals remain the same.

We focus on:

  • Casting flies safely
  • Understanding the mechanics of the fly cast
  • Breaking down each component of the fly cast
  • Improving your fly cast timing
  • Learning new application specific fly casting techniques
  • Diagnosing your own fly casting challenges
  • Understanding flyfishing gear and the tools available

Course subject matter includes field-based single-handed flycasting, field-based two-handed and Spey casting, knot tying, safely fly casting on the river, reading rivers for flyfishing and practical approaches to fly fishing rivers.

These single-hand flycasting and two-handed or Spey casting flyfishing  techniques are adopted to fly fishing our Washington rivers; however, they are also certainly applicable to flyfishing lakes and the salt as well.

How to FlyCast - Learn properly so this doesn't happen to youOur practical approach in teaching flycasting will offer you insight in improving your fly cast and flyfishing our moving waters more efficiently, effectively and safely. We'll work hard to get you casting well which will make your time on the water more productive. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you’re casting well you are more than likely fishing well too.

We offer private, semi-private and group lessons. In a one-on-one setting, rapid progressions are frequently seen. Many flycasting students see exponential gains in the first two to three hours of instruction. That being said, the flycast you want might take you a lifetime to perfect.
