Beginners

Teaching individuals who are new or newer to the sport is one of our specialties.

You will find endless patience and a good base of knowledge to get you off on the right foot. I find it highly rewarding assisting an individual just getting started and seeing their progression.

It can indeed be a challenge getting started in anytthing but especially, it seems, in flyfishing and running rivers. I strive to create a fun, safe, practical learning environment. One of my clients had the perfect analogy when he compared flycasting to golf. "The harder I try the worse it gets"...and, how true that is. My methods of teaching focus on practicality, whether its flycasting, reading water or rowing rivers.

It can be a daunting task to try to figure out fly fishing on your own and down right dangerous running rivers without appropriate knowledge and training. However, once you have a good base of knowledge, flyfishing and running rivers in the Pacific Northwest is a rewarding experience in a very magical place.

I prefer to teach classes in a one on one or two setting to maximize the amount of information we cover as well as increase your understanding and retention. Written course materials provided.

Subject matter includes field-based single-handed flycasting, field-based Spey casting, knot tying, understanding Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations, river safety, safely fly casting on the river, reading rivers for flyfishing, practical application of fly fishing rivers, rowing rivers for fishing and running whitewater.

Larger class venues are certainly be accomodated with appropriate instructor to student ratio.
