Grande Ronde River Fly Fishing - Summer Run Steelhead Flyfishing and Multi-Day Outings

Flyfishing the Grande Ronde for summer run steelhead is an amazing experience. It is indeed an incredible place I never want to leave but that I'm always happy to share. The Grande Ronde is a perfect destination for multi-day, expedition-style camping and flyfishing adventures; especially, if you’re into chasing summer run steelhead and being almost in the middle of nowhere. It does require a little monkee business to get there but it's absolutely worth the trek.

Wild and hatchery summer run steelhead begin returning in late September and we fish it hard through the end of October. Besides the fish, the Grande Ronde offers an incredible outdoor experience and stunning scenery.

We typically spend somewhere between three and five days floating and flyfishing the Grande Ronde. We usually cover somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 to 30 river miles chasing these crazy steelhead.

A dedicated camp/gear boat maximizes flyfishing time and ensures that there are comfortable accommodations and excellent meals. It also affords us the opportunity to offer some super special camp experiences as well. You just might hear an elk or two bugle as the sun sets. There's a reason why we call one of our camps Elk Island.

After a full day on the river, you’ll arrive to a fully functional camp where campfire and appetizers await…and, a fine dinner well on the way. Tents and cots are setup and Paco pads (air mattresses) ensure you will sleep like Rip Van Winkle.

In the morning, Cowboy coffee on the Ronde is just about as good as it gets. Breakfast is really, really good too. After breakfast, camp crew takes care of everything while you head out for another magical day skating and swinging flies on the Grande Ronde.

The Grande Ronde is a tributary of the Snake river located in the far Southeastern corner of Washington flowing Northeast out of Oregon. It is one of Washington’s true gems and definitely one of my favorites. I do have several favorites but the Ronde is where I always choose to spend my time in the Fall.

We'll hope to see you on the Ronde.
