Skagit River Fly Fishing - Steelhead, Trout, Char and Salmon

Affectionately referred to as "The Skagit”, this incredible watershed drains an immense geography supporting an amazing ecosystem. Tributaries including the Sauk, Cascade and Baker rivers as well as its smaller and lesser known tributary creeks which come together to provide excellent flyfishing opportunities.

The Skagit river boasts Congressional Wild and Scenic River designation designed to preserve its wild, scenic and quality recreational characteristics. Cascades Expeditions is one of just three dedicated flyfishing outfitters holding a permit from the United States Forest Service to guide the Wild and Scenic Skagit/Sauk watershed.

The Skagit river is legendary for its Wild Winter Steelhead which run from December through April. It is also home to Summer-run Steelhead, Bull Trout, Rainbow Trout as well as Coastal Cutthroat trout making this a solid fishery much of the year.

The Skagit sees all five species of Salmon returning to spawn at varying times of the year including Pinks, Coho, King, Chum and Sockeye. With its abundant fish and wildlife, emerald green waters and beautiful views of the North Cascades and Mount Baker, flyfishing the Skagit river offers an amazing experience in an absolutely stunning setting.

Rich in its fly fishing history and lore, the Skagit hosts fly anglers well. It is called home to Skagit-style Spey casting by many. Fly fishing the Skagit with a Spey or two-handed rod is an exciting way to explore this awesome river.

While flyfishing the Skagit can be intimidating because of its size, there are so many classic flyfishing runs that you may never want to leave. Overnight expedition-style flyfishing outings provide a splendid two or three day experience. There are numerous float options for flyfishing the Skagit/Sauk rivers with over 80 river miles to explore.

All of our overnight outings include warm, dry, first class accommodations as well as fine dining experiences. Spacious four person tents, cots and sleeping pads ensure your ready for a full day of flyfishing. Cascades Expeditions is a "Leave No Trace" outfitter.

For those who enjoy a less remote experience, Howard Miller Steelhead Park at Rockport provides fine "car camping" style opportunities right next to the river with boat launch, electricity, water, restroom and shower facilities on site. This is a fine facility which we utilize regularly when showers and running water are desirable.

During the winter season, not everyone is completely enamored with camping on the river. We love it but totally understand it's not for everyone. Clark’s Cabins, between Rockport and Marblemount, is an excellent option. The cabins are warm, clean and comfortable. Many of the units have full kitchens with barbeque pit upon request.
