Yakima River Fly Fishing

The Yakima River is just a very special place located about 1 1/2 hours east of Seattle. Flyfishing the Yakima river for abundant rainbow, cutthroat Yakima River Fly Fishing - good catch! and cutt-bow trout in one of Washington’s finest trout rivers is always an exceptional experience in one way or another.

We have the most experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated guides on the Yakima river. That coupled with the numbers of fish, diversity of wildlife, numerous species of birds, rolling hills and canyon walls make flyfishing the Yakima river a prime destination. In some sections, "The Yak” boasts over 1,000 fish per mile with some of its larger fish in the 20+” range.

We try to primarily fish the Yakima with dry flies as bug life on the Yakima is usually nothing short of abundant with mayfly, stonefly and caddis hatches much of the year.

The Yakima is widely known for its prolific hatches including:

  • Skawla, golden, salmon, yellow sally and short wing stoneflies
  • March browns, pale morning dun, light Cahill, mahogany dun, green drake and blue wing olive mayflies
  • Mother's day caddis, October caddis
  • Terrestrials such as ants, grasshoppers, beetles and craneflies can be the name of the game at other times

That being said, occasionally these crazy fish have a mind of their own and we are required to explore other options. Nymphing can be highly effective on the Yakima. Swinging sub-surface flies on our 4 wt. Echo Dec Hogan Spey rods can be a blast as well when the dry fly action is a little slow. Basically, we’ll do everything we can to put you on the fish.

Flyfishing the Yakima RiverOne of my favorite attributes of the Yakima is it is an excellent river for overnight outings. My question is, "Why would you ever stay in a hotel or lodge when you can stay on the river?”

We host awesome overnight flyfishing experiences on the Yakima and offer some of the finest food in Kittitas County complete with dutch-oven dessert. Fire-side appetizers and first class accommodations are ready for you when you come off the river.

Comfortable sleeping arrangements include spacious two person tents with 2”-4” Paco Pads (air mattresses). We want you to sleep well so you’re ready for the next of flyfishing "the Yak”.
